Prejudice, discrimination, and antagonism are debilitating. I equate it to being held underneath large stones of the earth. Nature’s elements are a natural metaphor because we are so connected to them. The warm and cool tones vibrate off each other, like an earthquake breaking the bondage. I thought about the dimensions of the canvas and decided on a strong vertical, which wraps the elements tightly and thrusts them upward.
